Cucumber Plant Wilting
A cucumber plant that droops in the afternoon sun and perks back up by evening is usually just responding to heat — normal, not a red flag. Wilting that doesn't recover, or that shows up right after transplanting, points somewhere else — toward the roots or the vascular system rather than the weather.
Possible Causes
- Daytime heat stress — temporary wilting in strong sun that recovers once it cools down
- Transplant shock in the days right after moving or repotting the plant
- Vascular disease (Fusarium or Verticillium wilt) blocking water transport internally
- Root damage from soil-dwelling pests
- Genuinely insufficient watering, or soil draining too fast to hold moisture
What to Check
- Whether it recovers by evening (heat-related) or stays wilted
- How recently the plant was transplanted or repotted
- Discoloration of the vascular tissue if the stem base is cut
- Whether it's the whole plant or just individual leaves/branches
